Description

Upanishad Unit is an 18 ring (3*6) contraction of the hexagonally expanding Not Tao 3 Sheets To The Wind weave.

This sample uses the same wire diameter for each ring type, and four sizes were used, although three is likely more ideal. It took a few attempts to get a reasonably tight sample.

31/128" (6.15mm), 29/128" (5.75mm), 31/64" (12.3mm), 13/32" (10.3mm) mandrels
.258", .243", .532", .446" ID
AR of 3.2, AR of 3.0, AR of 6.7, AR of 5.6

As for which rings are which:

  • AR of 6.7: 3 singled horizontal rings; top left, top right, bottom.
  • AR of 5.6: 3 sets of 2 (layered) horizontal rings; top, bottom left, bottom right. The reinforced rings, if you will.
  • AR of 3.2: All vertical (small) rings, except...
  • AR of 3.0: 3 vertical rings each of which connect a 6.7 to a set of 5.6's: at 1 o'clock, 5 o'clock, and 9 o'clock.

The three smallest rings were originally 3.2, but switched out afterwards due to looseness.
