DescriptionCrenelated-3 Sheet is a hexagonally expanding radial sheet that is made up of 2 layers of large horizontal rings. They are held together using much smaller vertical rings. The weave is ideally constructed with all of the small rings pre-closed and it goes together very quickly. The connection types are those found in Gridlock and this can be looked at as a 3-row wide, 2 ring size-using Gridlock (in the weave library as Staggered Corduroy), 3 full units chain hoop expanded hexagonally. A more open tessellated weave is found in Staggered Corduroy Net (Gridlock Web). Usually there is a wire diameter difference between the small and large ring which keeps the ARs reasonable and the weave can be made in standard ring sizes. "20 gauge (AWG or SWG)" 1/8" and "16 SWG" 5/16" or 11/32" work nicely (allowing enough springback for the smaller rings). Using the same wire diameter for each ring type requires a significant gap between the two. After a few failed attempts which caused the initial hoop to dome, An AR of 2.3 for the small, and AR of 8.7 for the large rings worked ideally. 2.3 with 8.3 for the large ring didn't work. The small ring might go a bit lower. An AR of 2.0 is required to pass two wire widths, but the large ring connection points have angled constraints (?). There might be multiple minimum AR possibilities.
bronze, stainless steel .048" (1.22mm) WD 13/128" (2.58mm), 23/64" (9.13mm) mandrel .112" (2.84mm), .419" (10.6mm) ID AR of 2.3, AR of 8.7 The AR difference is 6.4! This weave sample could possibly hold the record for the widest single wire diameter AR gap in a forced 2 ring size-using weave. At least that there's a record of at M.A.I.L.
