Octagonal Ring Mandrel

Description

Following from my last Hobbit-inspired posts, here is my first attempt to prototype some octagonal rings, similar to the Dwarvish maille from the new Hobbit films. It needs a lot of work, but it's not impossible... I have to tap each flat edge down on the anvil as I coil the rings, and then bash the coil down the mandrel to cut the rings. I made the mandrel with a piece of square steel by grinding down the corners. The wire is just 14ga galvanized steel.
