Made some spheres from Moorish Rose, from largest to smallest:

14 swg, 1/2" aluminum:
540 ring progression, 4" diameter
240 ring variant, 3" diameter
180 ring variant, 2.5" diameter

16 swg, 7/16" mild steel:
180 ring variant, 2" diameter

18 swg, 5/16" stainless steel:
240 ring variant, 1.75" diameter, captive burp-gun ball (1.3125" diameter), very snug, rigid fit
180 ring variant, 1.5" diameter, captive marble (1" diameter), loose fit

22 awg, 5/32" stainless steel:
240 ring variant, 7/8" diameter, captive marble (21/32" diameter), perfect fit
180 ring variant, 13/16" diameter, captive marble (9/16" diameter), perfect fit

24 awg, 1/8" stainless steel:
240 ring variant, 23/32" diameter, captive marble (7/16" diameter), snug, rigid fit
180 ring variant, 11/16" diameter, captive ball bearing (3/8" diameter), snug, rigid fit


The 180 ring variant is the same geometric shape as a soccer ball, where each 5-unit shares two 6-units with the neighboring 5-unit. The 240 ring variant instead separates the 5-units on opposite sides of a single 6-unit such that each 5-unit shares only one 6-unit with the neighboring 5-unit. This makes a slightly larger and slightly rounder product. The 540 progression simply adds more 6-units to the piece and can be expanded to any size.
