Staggered Captive Inverted Round Sheet (C2) Six-Sided Column (6.1 AR)

DescriptionThis is the Staggered Captive Inverted Round Sheet ((C2) version) weave made into a six-sided column.
It is constructed of .063" (~16 SWG (1.6mm)) stainless steel rings wrapped on an 11/32" (8.73mm) mandrel, the inner diameter of which measures .382" (9.7mm) giving these rings an AR of 6.1, which is the minimum AR for this weave with two captives per cell.
This structure is extremely rigid and difficult to put together. A few rings have opened slightly from tension. I have made another sample at an AR of 6.3, which was put together with much greater ease (but still being very tight), leading me to believe that the ideal AR for this structure is .1 above the minimum. I've also put together a 3 captive-per-cell version at an AR of 6.9, .2 above its minimum AR of 6.7.
This structure takes an already quite rigid weave, and solidifies it further, making it ideal for structural sculpture applications that require a good deal of strength, like e.g. legs for a coffee table.
