DescriptionChapel de Fer and Maille coif - 10th / 14th Centuries. This steel hat was the ideal helmet for the archers and the crossbow men of the time. Actually it was fashioned mostly for the protection of the artillery foot soldier. It served its purpose perfectly by protecting the head and the shoulders with its wide brim. It covered the area around the neck and the shoulders especially when shot at by the enemy from above. This hat was used by the French, English and also by the Teutonic Knights against the Mongols in 1241.Weave(s) Used (Click to View Weave)European 4 in 1Images Tags (Click to Search Gallery)Tag(s): Armour, Coif, Head, HelmWeave(s): European 4 in 1 |
