DescriptionWinding wire on a mandrel in a metal lathe. The wire is 18 gauge (0.0472") galvanized mild steel. The mandrel is a piece of 1/4" high-carbon (but unhardened) steel rod. I wind at about 100 rpm while close to the chuck, and then increase to about 300 rpm after I'm well clear of it.
