Anybody out there?

We have not had an admin discussion for over a year now. Part of that is good because we have not had any major problems that need to be taken care of.

But what is the next step from M.A.I.L.? Are there any improvements we should talk about? Any visions that anybody has for the continuation of the organization?

Just want to see if there is anything that needs to be discussed. If not. . . . . Have a great day! Very Happy

I'm here! Very Happy

Honestly, I've been enjoying the drama-free atmosphere. I don't have any pressing matters that need to be taken care of at the moment.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE the drama free atmosphere as well. I am just wondering if there is something we can do to make things better. BESIDES give DL more to do. Very Happy

While true we are drama free right now, some times I wonder if that drama didn't also put some life into the group? ** and now you can start throwing things at me.**

*throws things at MusicMan for multiple reasons*

Things we could do to make things better? The queues still need to move faster... Not a month goes by that I don't get a PM asking me why someone has been sitting in the queue for so long.
Granted, it's usually the weave queue, people get more touchy about weaves it seems, but the Gallery queue is just as guilty of old content Razz
(Not to mention the Article queue... But a portion of that is my fault on the coding end.)

Beyond that? Give me more work Wink I'm always open to suggestions.

**Ducks multiple times**

Yes, I am guilty of being slow on the gallery end of things. Many times it is because I am waiting for information from people.

I check in at least once a month. I'm kinda useless...

I plead also guilty of being quasi semi-retired. Currently I tend to read, but not to answer - and the queues don't see me often as well. Ask me to reactivate, and I may shine up more often again.

Human societies are like chain mail.
A single link will be worth nothing.
A chain is of use, but will break at the weakest link.
A weak weave will have the need to replace weak links.
A strong weave will survive even with weak links included.

I'm still breathing too!

Let's see, stuff we could improve...

We're woefully deficient on reviews of mail based literature.

The historical articles are sparse and, to put it delicately, "speculative" at best.

There's very little good info about welded and riveted mail.

That's just from a quick scan of the articles section.

Frankly I think that to become the best possible resource we should transition to a wiki style for pretty much the entire library.

I have not worked with many wiki styles, but how would you insure that people don't come in and "trash" something? Not saying I don't like the idea, just wondering.

Truthfully I would like to see where we could "tag" relevant articles and the like to gallery submissions so they show up on the bottom similar to the weaves that show tutorials and samples.

I've pointed it out before... But... MAIL technically *is* Wiki styled... It just doesn't run MediaWiki software, it's a custom front end...

Only for the weaves, unless I'm misunderstanding something.

The information in the articles is all individually authored and not subject to group editing, isn't that correct? Also I don't think that gallery images and text submitted to the site can be used in articles by other users without obtaining permission.

MusicMan, wiki sites have options to allow users to revert unwanted changes easily or in the case of persistent vandalism to lock a certain article against unauthorized editing.

Another issue that I just noticed is that the articles hosted on MAIL don't seem to show up on Google, even when searching for the exact title.

WTF is up with that? Searching for the title of one of my articles brings up the PDF version hosted by TRL as the first hit but the HTML version submitted here can only be found via the images.

Hmm... looks like it's just that one article. Other articles show up fine.
