Human societies are like chain mail.
A single link will be worth nothing.
A chain is of use, but will break at the weakest link.
A weak weave will have the need to replace weak links.
A strong weave will survive even with weak links included.

Any ideas for where it will be displayed?

i was going to work on universities and art museums. i have some ideas of places to approach, but nothing i'll write up here until i've contacted them. i won't contact anyone until i have a mounted quilt to show them.

we had an offer based on the unfinished quilt from this gallery in los angelas:
www.claregraham.com

the owner/artist offered display space. i mentioned that it wasn't for sale.. (and, that i wouldn't go to bat for less than a quarter mil and even then, maybe no go.)

he said that he would offer free space for the quilt and space for my own work. he said he would take no commission from sales. if i move forward on this, i might want to show with another chain artist or two. some artist style contrast could be wonderful for that kind of display. what an opportunity to educate the public on maille!

i checked out his site. i guess it makes sense to me. he needs to keep a steady flow of creative things in his space in order to keep the steady flow of people coming through. so, i see some potential benefit for him, even if there is not a direct cut of sales.

anyway, this is just what i'm mulling over in my head. i plan to do at least a BOD vote before putting the quilt anywhere other than my own table.
i -do- put it out on my table often at slower venues.. i am hoping that's all well and good. i have been taking the "people should see it" approach to quilt guardianship.

it just occurred to me that i have the only real piece of MAIL.
everything else is 1s and 0s.
