I am really new a making Chain Maille and have a dumb question!!!!

I am trying to teach myself some different weaves and am very confused! I live in an area where I have not been able find any classes so I am teaching myself.

Is there a difference between the Box and Full Persian? I tried making the Box Chain using the 4 in 1 pattern and could not do it. I found another set of instructions that used the 2-2-2 pattern and that worked for me. But now I am not sure if I am making the Box or Persian.

Is there a difference in these two weaves? Coif Smiley

Thanks!!!

Oh yes, big difference!
Have a look here at Box Chain and here at Full Persian 6in1. Take a look at the tutorials and you will see the difference clearly enough. Smile

here's a look at them one beside the other.....full persian:

box maille:

I guess the way I'd describe the difference is that the rings are on the outside in boxmaille, but on the inside in full persian. They are two very different weaves, but I can understand someone not being sure when just starting out.

Thank you so much!!! That does clear the difference up for me. Uber

I am weaving the box chain.

Another question, I had found this great website with instructions on it, but now the web site is no longer working, it was Derakon's Library. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, does anyone know if those instructions are anywhere else?

Derekon's site used to be hosted on a sub-site of TRL. They moved, and presumed he was hosting elsewhere. He was not. They said they'd be sure to get his stuff up right away again. They haven't.

http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~cweisige/inst.html <-- There's his old-old site, but the pictures are gone.

You could try going over to TRL and emailing them a reminder about it, if you want to see his tutorials.

If I see Derekon around, I'll ask him if he wants to host his tutorials here.
