Well, I'm far from an expert on glass. I know that they are similar, but the slight differences are enough to cause problems.
I just know I had difficulitys with the morretti glass I have, and fewer problems with the pryex. Why? dunno. I'm just someone who has a torch and a lot of burns.
The most importent thing to remember with glass in the cooling coefficent. If one glass has an index of 90 and the other has a 93, they cool at different rates and will fracture.

One thing I do want to try is placing some micromaille in a clear marble. them maille around that. I suspect it will break, but its worth a shot.

Have fun!

yup, encasing the maille in the glass. It would be the perfect way to save those lil' micromaille projects from getting distroyed.

just something to do in my copious amounts of spare time...

Okaaay.....
That was like really bad anime.
Not quite sure how that relates to glass maille though....

Perhaps a response a tad more on topic would be better appreciated.

thanks...

I think it would be possible to put liquid in glass maille, but it would be a humongous pain in the rear, particularly if you're using small rings. Only for the patient people... though the result would be absolutely spectacular.

The reason you didn't quite catch it, is because we never said! :)

Really, I don't know how one could do it. Closing one end of the tube is ok, but filling the liquid and heating it to seal the other end is the problem. I'm afraid the liquid would boil and built up pressure would explode the tube.
I have seen hollow beads done, so I know that air can be contained. THe bead maker told me that there are a lot of failures because of air pressure inside the hot bead. Very tricky work that i'm not prepared to deal with yet. I would think that after it cooled there would be a slight vacume. Danger of Imploading? dunno.
So how about sealing one end, adding the liquid, then a rubber stopper?
Neon would be cool, but thats a lot of terminals and wiring.

BTW, the glass Jap 5-1 ball is going slow. I broke 3 rings in a row, so I quit for the weekend. Can't do it when it when I get frusterated.

The pineapple maille is great! I'ts been awhile since I've seen it. A perfect example of abserd maille. No practical use, but it had to be done!
