replacing low quality weave images??

there are a lot of low quality weave images..

i, personally, am responsible for a good many of them

would people be upset if we made a drive for better images?? i wouldn't mind if my own images were replaced.. do people think this would hurt some peoples' feelings if their image was replaced with a higher quality one?

i know my own low quality images were due to lack of good equipment. i feel this is probably the case with most of the low quality images.

it was once suggested that we use both a picture and a render.. but i don't know if this is necessary.. should we accept renders as the only image?

there is one image i would like to put out a request that we replace.. anyone who can take get good quality images. please get simple orbital.. first off the pic in the gallery is flat wrong! i took it before i understood the orbital concept.. that was the prototype.

so, if there are any of my weaves which people want to put up better images of.. by all means, submit them with (replacement) in the title.. i'll edit out the replacement part and delete the old image.

we can still give credit to the original submitter if we accept new images, and submit them under the "mailleartisans" member.

maybe 'weave by: human' 'image by: other human'

the problem arises with where to give the submission credit.

i personally don't care about that, but some people care about that submissions counter.

thoughts?

kim

Greetings sackredchao

I agree with you ( you've had a very good idea )but It may be interesting to make a poll of that and see what do people thinks and in consequence act. I think most people will agree with you decision of rendered images and/or high quality images because with that you can figure out a weave without the added difficulty of the bad image.

PS : If you do the rendered images, it may be interesting to put the most intrincate ones in a couple of angles to see it better, it's just an idea, you'll decide wether is viable or nice for the community.

yea i should have made it a poll.. people are more likely to vote than comment.. sometimes i forget that...

multiple angles... a good idea whether the image is rendered or not.

I don't think it's a good idea to accept renders for weaves. It's too easy to make a render that violates the laws of physics, and give the wrong impression of how the weave works.

How about this? Member A submitted the picture originally, and it's decided to get a better one. Member B *has* a better one, and submits it to the gallery. Either the original submitter or an admin embed a thumbnail image / link to the better picture in the weave description.

Now each member gets their "credit", but anyone who needs a better pic can get it to study, and their are no republishing/IP issues, since both images and the description retain their original addresses and forms.

The code for such an embeddage would look something like:
Code:

<i>Better Image</i><a href=/gallery/pics/XXXX.gif><img src=/gallery/pics/smXXXX.gif width=100 height=100></a>

Where XXXX.gif is the name of the image file.

I'm all for the pictures being replaced... certainly wont' hurt my feelings any, I know that alot of my pictures are quite horrible, and definitly need to be replaced.

I'm echoing Bative on this one. I've already had to do that with This is Not Water

I agree with Sakredchao and with Blaise (about the renders).
Maybe you can make a list with all the weaves that need a better pic, so that they can be uploaded and replaced.

somewhere along the line 2 roundmaille samples got submitted..

one of them is going, but i didn't want ot make that call. i thought i'd ask peole what they thought...

i have several times almost changed the description, becuase i thought it was unclear or flat wrong, but i have resisted temptation. i am -reorganizing- only.

starwriter.. your weave is still there. thanks for helping to fill in the blank spaces, even though the space didn't turn out to be blank.. that's more our fault than anything for having a messy library.

we did have a sample that (i think) lorenzo had submitted awhile ago.. but seeing as the weaves area was a mess it was hard to find.

look on the first page of the european list..

i've added @ in front of the more basic and root weaves, so they are listed at the top..

there is no reason for euro4-1 to be off of the first page of the euro listings.

also.. i decided that i won't make a list of weaves that we want better images of.. there are over 350 weaves in the library. probably over 200 of them want better images. i feel it's pretty obvious which ones. if you want to help with better images (high quality only please.. ) just go into the weave library and scan down. if the thumbnail is not clear, then it wants a better image.

sorry, i just don't see a reason to type out 200 weave names...
it is easier to make a list of weaves we -don't- need better images of.
