Here are my thoughts about the "2/3rds rule". As long as what you make is mostly chainmaille, as long as you are being honest that you made it for the contest to fit the theme, then I'm fine with it.

In my opinion, the "2/3rds rule" is intentionally vague. This is a chainmaille site and we want to see some cool, different, interesting, new stuff that is chainmaille-related. That's why the contests began. What we don't want to see, is a little bit of chainmaille and a bunch of stuff slapped on just so that it technically meets the theme part of the contest. I'm pretty sure the membership is smart enough to look at an entry and tell whether it meets the etched in sand 2/3rds rule.

tldr: Don't overthink it. Make something chainmaille with a Steampunk theme. Have fun!

Now that, I can do. I would be finding myself 'in' as they say.

Just glue some [rings] on it (and call it [chainmaille]).

Steampunk maille on the mind

I love these contests can't wait to see some fabulous creations of steampunk-maille, two art forms I think mesh well. I thought a few gears and such would qualify my maille for this contest; thanks to these discussions, I see it could take a little more form and function and imagination. I'm excited to see the results.

I feel I should clarify:
That is only my vote (and others that think the same way)... but by no means everyone's vote. I thoroughly enjoy functional gears and mechanisms, but there is much more to steampunk than just things with gears.

I do have an excellent idea that I've been wanting to do for awhile, but we shall see if I can find the time to make it. And it doesn't have any gears or mechanical components to it (unless you include tying a knot mechanical).

I'm in! I'm a fan of steampunk, and I've already made a few pieces, now I gotta step up my game and make some more.

Looks like I'm in. Unfortunately, I'm fresh out of copper and bronze rings. I guess I'll go with something on the clockwork end of steampunk then. Coif Cool Smiley

SURE you choose this theme after my sisters Steampunk Wedding! Just kidding!
I wish I had the time to make some more things like I did for her wedding this summer, I did some barrettes for the girls and I did her wedding necklace, but there is no time right now.

Good luck I look forward to voting for the winner.

[/img] this could be a steampunk entry, this bracelet is made out of 16 SWG 1/4 Jewelers brass. it looks more like bronze or copper now but the torch did funny things to it. it's too interwoven curb chains, basically just a spiral 4 in 1 with twisted links.
