A one gallon, yes I said one gallon Jim Beam bourbon bottle wrapped in euro 4 in 1 with byzantine chain, spiral chain, HP 3 in 1, and Japanese 2 on 2 chain. I drilled holes through 25 pennies (don't worry in this case it is legal) and attached them to each side. The rings are all 14 gauge aluminum with a 5/16'' ID.

Well, you did not destroy the currency, but drilling holes is something the government does when the value of coins changes and they do not want to make new coins, so they drill them.

If the coins are not in circulation, you just raised the value of these coins as collectibles because you destroyed them.

You could have used fake coins. They would look more exotic. In Greece we have fake "Flouria" for costumes and British Sovereigns that we put in the pie we eat to celebrate the new year.

Fake Sovereigns: http://asinartitoi.blogspot.gr/2012/12/blog-post_9189.html

"Flouria" are older, Byzantine, Ottoman, or Venetian gold coins The name comes from "Florins". They are used for traditional costumes and jewelry. (You know, what harem girls wear.)
They look like that: http://www.dioni-art.gr/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1242&virtuemart_category_id=403&lang=en

i think 25 holes in pennies is just as good as 25 rings for what it's worth.

I don't think it matters. He didn't change the coins in a way that makes them appear to be a different denomination, which is all the law cares about as far as I know. Drilling holes in pennies and using them in artwork is totally acceptable.

This looks rather large because I was using the Macro feature on my camera, but assure you, this does fit on my finger.

This is made up of exactly 25 rings: 3 large rings and 22 small rings.

Weave is modified Serpent`s Spine.

Rings:
Anodized Aluminium (black) ID=19mm WD=2.4mm AR=7.9
Brass (silver) ID=6.4mm WD=1.3mm AR=4.9
Anodized Aluminium (Black Ice) ID=6.35mm WD=1.6mm AR=3.97

Hey, I got inspired.

This one is larger than the previous one; it fits on my thumb.

This is, again, exactly 25 rings: 1 large ring, 8 medium-sized rings, and 16 small rings.

This is a 2-in-1 chain joined in a circle, which is also wrapped around/through the large ring. And some of the rings are doubled.

Large ring: ID=26mm, WD=3mm, OD=32mm, AR=8.67 Brass (silver)
Medium rings: ID=6.35mm, WD=1.2mm, OD=8.75mm, AR=5.29 Anodized Aluminium (green)
Small rings: ID=4.76mm, WD=1.2mm, OD=7.16mm, AR=3.97 Anodized Aluminium (green)
