Well this is my very first post but I thought I would say hello and say I am probably the most lonely mailler in terms of others doing the same... as I call my home Shetland!

Anyway I have been doing chainmaille for over 12 years mostly as a hobby, but the past few years adding it to my jewelry items I make and sell.

So hello everyone!

Hello everyone *waving*
I'm a total newbie ... I've been combing through chain maille tutorials online over the past two weeks trying to teach myself and just completed my first byzantine weave bracelet. I am hooked! I'm in the UK too. Birmingham to be more specific. I'm working on a second Byzantine bracelet at the moment. It's giving me the practice I need in opening and closing rings. Neat closures are a bit hit and miss for me right now and I keep spotting the odd badly closed ring which I have to go back to to tweak. But it's early days so I am not too worried - practice makes perfect right?

I bought some really cheap chain nose pliers (£1.75 each) and am thinking of upgrading to other better pliers. Should I get flat-nosed pliers instead? Any UK recommendations? I've not looked in B&Q or Homebase yet for pliers.

Have you investigated fishing tackle shops? Spinnerbait blades are apparently what modern maille scales are based on. Mind you, blades don't have large holes, so they might not work for what you want.

Craft isn't cheaper than therapy, but it's more fun.
