I second that:
Before you've got a clear sheet, do NOT pick it up. Just work on the edges by lifting the bare minimum of links so the centre of gravity doesn't shift and lose your spot.

While cutting, don't twist the blade at all. It will catch and snap.

Put it under as much tension as it can handle before you start using it, or it's more prone to twist, get caught and snap.
