I take my coil of of the actual mandrel and use something else to old it in position for cutting. Tape is a good thing that comes to mind. ...

Are we talking about making round rings out of square wire ... or square rings out of round wire?

Actually, you can make square rings from square wire, but its a bit tricky to do so. When you wind your wire around the mandrell, you have to ensure that the wire is kept on the same plain.

If you plain to do it in sterling silver, try 18G wire using 3.5 mm rings. Thats the ideal size.

If 16G wire, use 4.5 mm rings.

Actually, I don't see anything wrong with putting out a request for artist work to be published as a collaborative method. This is done all the time in the industry.
