Shenanigans
(Preclose Large Rings)
Article © MAIL User: Grace

To weave Shenanigans you need 2 ring sizes. The smaller ring should be small enough to nest inside of the larger ring, but should be large enough to hold at least 6-7 of the larger rings' gauge within it.

The aspect ratio for same gauge rings is about sm:3 lg:5-6

This weave can be achieved with 2 different gauge rings, the larger ring being the thicker gauge
The aspect ratio for these 2 different gauges is about sm:5-6 lg:5-6

This tutorial is using sm:16g 3/16ths lg:16g 3/8ths

Prepare several small open rings, and several large closed rings.

To Start

Image: 1shenanigans1.JPG
Start out with 3 large closed rings, and 1 small open ring.

Building the unit

Image: 2shenanigans1.JPG Image: 3shenanigans1.JPG Image: 4shenanigans1.JPG
Place 1 large closed ring inside 1 small open
ring.
Place a 2nd large closed ring around the small
open ring so that it is resting on the 1st large closed
ring.
Add the 3rd large closed ring inside the small
open ring, and close the small ring to complete this step.

Positioning the unit

Completed unit. Completed unit positioned correctly.
Take the 2 large end rings, with the large
middle ring floating in the center, twist
clockwise. This is what the unit should look like
before adding the next rings.

Adding layer 2

Image: 7shenanigans.JPG Image: 8shenanigans1.jpg
Take 1 small open ring and put 1 large closed ring on
it. Then put the small open ring through the center of the top
large closed ring and onto the 2nd large closed ring. Close
the small ring to complete this step. You may need to close
this ring on the opposite side in which the small ring went
through.
If your unit does not look like this photo then
follow these instructions. Now you may have what looks like
the start of Dragon Tail Take the 2 end rings and the
right side should rotate clockwise, the left hand should
rotate counterclockwise.

Adding layer 3

Image: 9shenanigans1.JPG Image: 10shenanigans1.JPG
Take 1 small open ring and put 1 large closed ring
on it. Then put the small open ring through the center of
the top large closed ring, and onto the 2nd large closed
ring. Close the small ring to complete this step. You may
need to close this ring on the opposite side in which the
small ring went through.
As each new top ring gets added, you will need to
rotate it into place, before adding the next ring. It should
be back and forth clockwise and counterclockwise until you
are finished.

Adding layer 4

Image: 11shenanigans1.JPG Image: 12shenanigans1.JPG
Take 1 small open ring and put 1 large closed ring
on it. Then put the small open ring through the center of
the top large closed ring, and onto the 2nd large closed
ring. Close the small ring to complete this step. you may
need to close this ring on the opposite side in which the
small ring went through.
As each new top ring gets added, you will need to
rotate it into place, before adding the next ring.It should
be back and forth clockwise and counterclockwise until you
are finished.

Adding layer 5

Image: 13shenanigans1.JPG Image: 14shenanigans1.JPG
Take 1 small open ring and put 1 large closed ring
on it. Then put the small open ring through the center of
the top large closed ring, and onto the 2nd large closed
ring. Close the small ring to complete this step. You may
need to close this ring on the opposite side in which the
small ring went through.
As each new top ring gets added, you will need to
rotate it into place, before adding the next ring. It should
be back and forth clockwise and counterclockwise until you
are finished.

Finishing the ends

Image: 15shenanigans1.JPG Image: 16shenanigans1.JPG Image: 17shenanigans1.JPG
Put 1 small open ring through the end 3 large
closed rings.
Close the small jump ring. This should stabilize
the end of the weave.
Add a jump ring and clasp.

Start with 2 mirror image lengths and 1
large closed jump ring.
Install the large loose jump ring.
Take 1 small open ring and put the large
closed ring on it. Then put the small
open ring through the center of the bottom
right large closed ring, and onto the 2nd
large closed ring in the weave.
Close the small ring to complete this step.

Image: 24shenanigans1.JPG
Add a small open ring through the bottom 3
large closed jump rings and close.

Installing the center ring

Image: 26shenanigans1.JPG Image: 27shenanigans1.JPG
Position right side over left, and
install the end large jump ring onto the left
side. Take 1 small open ring and put the
large closed ring from the right on it.
Then put the small open ring through the
center of the bottom right large closed
ring, and onto the 2nd large closed
ring in the weave.
Close the small ring to complete this step.

Installing the center ring 2

Image: 28shenanigans1.JPG Image: 29shenanigans1.JPG
Add a small open ring through the 3 large
closed rings on the top on the opposite side
of the last 2 installations.
Close the small ring to complete this step.

Installing the center ring 3

Image: 30shenanigans1.JPG Image: 31shenanigans1.JPG
Take 1 small open ring and put it through the
center of both the far left bottom ring and
center ring.
Close the small ring to complete this step.

Installing the center ring 4

Image: 32shenanigans1.JPG Image: 33shenanigans1.JPG
Do the same through the the far right bottom ring
and center ring.
Close the small ring to complete this step.

Finishing the point

Image: 34shenanigans1.JPG Image: 35shenanigans1.JPG Image: 20shenanigans1.JPG
Install 1 large open ring through the 2 bottom
small rings over the top of the center large closed
ring.
Add a jump ring. Add your favorite pendant.

I hope that you have enjoyed learning to weave shenanigans. Have fun!
