This4That Calculator Guide.

This article links to and explains the use of the This4That Calculator.

This4That is a small spreadsheet calculator for working out how much a piece will weigh in one metal when it weighs X amount in another metal. I made the calculator after having several requests of “How much would that cost in *insert metal of your choice here*?” and I’d have to work out how much of X I’d need to order and how much the materials would cost. This4That is a spreadsheet and will run in Microsoft Excel and Openoffice.org Calc. I have not tried it in any other spreadsheet application but you may find that it works in others also.

This4That can be found here: This4That Calculator

How to Use This4That:

1. Open the spreadsheet file and you will be presented with the user interface.

2. Take your made item and weigh it. Put that weight into the first field on the top row.

3. Select the weight system that you weighed the item in using the drop down list in the second field on the top row.

4. Now select the metal that the piece you weighed is made from in the drop down list in the last field on the top row.

5. Select the weight system that you would like the answer to be displayed in by using the drop down list in the first field on the bottom row. This will normally be the same as the weight system you weighed in but the option is there if, for example your scales weigh in grams and your supplier sells in Troy oz.

6. Select the metal that you intend to make the new piece from in the drop down list in the last field on the bottom row.

7. The answer will be displayed in the orange box.
