Mink Tail Weave - A Non-Pictoral Tutorial
Article © MAIL User: Talia

I recommend using two sizes of rings for this weave: AR of 6.0 for the larger rings and AR of 4.0 for the smaller rings, both sizes of rings made from wire of the same diameter. This design requires three smaller rings for each pair of larger rings, plus two more of the larger rings. I have found that if you are working with 4mm and 6mm rings of 1.0mm wire diameter, 36 large rings and 51 small rings is a good starting point for a woman's bracelet. I pre-close the small rings and open the large rings. Half of the large rings should be opened in which ever direction you are comfortable working. And then, half of the remaining rings should be opened by pivoting the left side of the ring away from you, and the other half by pivoting the right side of the ring away from you. This will make the process of interlocking the larger rings easier when you come to that point.

Mink Tail Weave is a weave variation based on Noldolantë's "Lutra" weave, and you can begin by following steps one and two of the tutorial for Lutra (Lutra (CGI)), using the smaller rings and the comfortably-opened larger rings. Repeat step two until you have achieved the length you would like your finished piece to be, ending with a single large ring passed through the center ring of the previous three-ring group.

At this point, it is time to add the second ring to create each of the mobiused pairs of large rings. This part is much easier if you begin on the bottom, working your way back up to the top of the chain. Starting with the large ring at the bottom, take a right-forward ring, pass its right side through the center of the large, closed ring and then through all three of the smaller rings from the set directly above it, so that the working ring lies behind the other large rings that pass through the set of three. Close your working ring and get ready to do the unit directly above it, being careful to not flip the chain over.

To finish the chain, repeat these following two steps until you have reached the top:

1.)With a left-forward ring, pick up the two outer rings form the bottom set of three rings so that the new ring is in front of the large rings that are already there. Pass the left side of the working ring through the center of the large, closed ring leading the left side through from front to back, and then through all three rings from the upper set of three. Close your ring and move up to the next unit, being careful to not flip the chain over.

2.)With a right-forward ring, pick up the two outer rings form the bottom set of three rings so that the new ring is in front of the large rings that are already there. Pass the right side of the working ring through the center of the large, closed ring leading the right side through from front to back, and then through all three rings from the upper set of three. Close your ring and move up to the next unit, being careful to not flip the chain over.

To finish the ends in a simple manner, I recommend adding two AR of 4.0 rings connecting through both larger rings of the mobiused pair to attach a clasp. For a more secure terminal connection, I recommend one AR of 4.0 ring through both larger rings flanked by two AR of 2.5 to 3.0 rings that go though only the closer ring of the two mobiused rings.
