Elfweave
Article © MAIL User: Wahnsinnig

The motivation for this article comes from a request for a new way to make this Elfweave, and this is what I came up with.

Starting out, this weave is extremely unstable, in that if you pick the chain up too early, it will turn into a jumbled mess and will be extremely difficult to untangle. One option to prevent the mess is to keep the chain on the table until it is stable, picking it up only when absolutely necessary. Another option is to use foam and pins, or something similar to keep the chain in place (suggested by dibeads2). Should it become a jumbled mess...the best course might be to start over.

With that said...I think it is time to start.

For this article, I am using 14 ga, 5/16” ID machine cut BA (AR of 4.2) from TRL.
Red dots signify rings added for the current step.
Blue dots signify rings that the new rings pass through for the current step.

Start with a 2 in 2 piece.

An 18 ga, 3/16” BA ring has been attached as a point of reference.

Step 1: Add 2 new rings as shown. Each new ring will pass through 2 existing rings.

Step 2: Add 1 new ring as shown. New ring will pass through 2 existing rings.

Step 3: Add 2 new rings as shown. Each new ring will pass through 2 existing rings.

Step 4: Flip. Take extra care while flipping the chain as it is still unstable.

Step 5: Add 1 new ring as shown. New ring will pass through 2 existing rings.

After completing this step, the weave is stable. It can be picked up without too much effort required to put the rings back in proper position.

Step 6: Add 2 new rings as shown. Each new ring will pass through 2 existing rings.

Step 7: Flip.

Repeat Steps 5 - 7 until you want to stop.

Happy Weaving!
