Staggered Captive Inverted Round Sheet
(Linking CIR Chains)
Article © MAIL User: Chainmailbasket_com

Please note: This is NOT the best method for making this weave. It will only work if the aspect ratio of the rings is large enough, and even still, closing the connector rings is tricky, as they must be pried closed, rather than closed more naturally. This tutorial: Staggered Captive Inverted Round Sheet (from CGMaille) offers a better method.

This tutorial displays how to assemble Staggered Captive Inverted Round Sheet by connecting strands of Captive Inverted Round. It assumes you already know how to make Captive Inverted Round.

The rings used for this tutorial are .057" (17 SWG / 1.45mm) 3/8" (9.525mm) galvanized steel. These rings have an AR of 7.2 based on measured the ring size.

Step 1: Start with two pieces of Captive Inverted Round, and set them beside each other.

Step 2: Slide an open ring through the captive rings of one cell on one chain, and then slide that ring through the corresponding captive rings on the second chain.

Step 3: Close the ring added in step 2, then flip the weave over. Now add an open ring to the next cell's captive rings of one chain, and then slide the ring through the corresponding captive rings on the second chain. (The next cell will be inverse of the cell used in step 1).

Step 4: Close the ring added in step 3. Now flip the weave over again and... yep you guessed it. Add a ring to the captive rings in the next cell of each chain.

Step 5: Continue in this fashion until you are finished.
