Greetings and Welcome to the new M.A.I.L. Trading room!!
Before anyone gets started posting away, we as the Room Moderators would like you to take a few moments to read this thread, all of it, to familiarize yourself with the rules and disclaimers. I know it's a pain, but it's a must do kind of thing. By making your first post, (either in starting a thread, or in replying to one, basically using the room in general) it is assumed you have read everything below and accept the conditions.
First, the disclaimer for Maille Artisans...
Maille Artisans International League will in no way accept liability for any transaction completed or uncompleted in the Trading Forum. M.A.I.L. is neither a retailer nor a storefront for members to sell their goods. Instead, the Site acts as a venue to allow members of M.A.I.L. to offer, sell, and buy maille related materials, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of pricing formats, including a fixed price format. We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the items advertised, the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to pay for items. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction. Consequently, we do not transfer legal ownership of items from the seller to the buyer.
Because user verification on the Internet is difficult, M.A.I.L. cannot and does not confirm each user's purported identity. We encourage you to communicate directly with potential trading partners through the tools available on the Site. You may also wish to consider using a third party escrow service or services that provide additional user verification.
Because we are a forum, in the event that you have a dispute with one or more users, you release M.A.I.L. (and our officers, directors, agents, subsidiaries, joint ventures and volunteers) from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with such disputes.
We do not control the information provided by other users that is made available in the Trading Forum. You may find other users' information to be offensive, harmful, inaccurate, or deceptive. Please use caution, common sense, and practice safe trading when using the Site. Please note that there are also risks of dealing with underage persons or people acting under false pretense. Additionally, there may also be risks dealing with international trade and foreign nationals. By using this Site, you agree to accept such risks and M.A.I.L. is not responsible for the acts or omissions of users on the Site.
As a buyer, you are obligated to complete the transaction with the seller if you purchase an item in a reasonable amount of time. As a seller, you are obligated to sell and ship the item as described and per the terms you have arranged with the buyer.
Next we have the room guidelines for posting...
1. Post/thread Headers.
All threads should be prefixed in all caps with what the intention of the post is for, followed by a BRIEF description of the item(s). Example, "FOR SALE: Aluminum rings" "FOR TRADE: My laptop for xyz" "WANT TO BUY: Wiss Snips" etc. etc.
2. Maille items should be involved in some way in the transaction.
You can post that you have maille supplies you would like to sell, or supplies you would like to trade for. Perhaps you have an old guitar you would like to offer in trade for some rings, or someone is selling rings and you have a digital camera you would like to offer in trade.
Those sorts of things are acceptable. Just posting your old car for sale or trade for something else non-maille related is not.
3. Negotiations should take place outside of the thread.
If there is bartering/haggling/negotiating going on, it is to be taken to the Private Message function or to be conducted via email. Please be sure to include in your thread a way to reach you and your preferred method of discussion.
Questions about an item are allowed. Example; Asking what wire size the rings are if it wasn't mentioned in the original post is acceptable. Asking leading questions such as "will you take this laptop and $50 in trade?" are not.
4. No bumping please.
If no one responds to your post, AND it has been cycled off of the main page, then please PM or email one of the room mods to determine if your thread can be brought back onto the front page or if a new thread should be created.
5. When your transaction is completed, please edit your original post closing it.
Suggestion, change your prefix from "FOR SALE:" to "SOLD:".
6. Images are allowed in threads to show items for sale.
Please, host your images off site. A good place for that is http://www.photobucket.com . They also have a nice tutorial to help you learn how to post your pic via remote linking, and it's free free free to use. Linking to pictures on the MAIL site is not permitted; do not submit your pictures to the M.A.I.L. gallery for use in the trading room.
7. The item(s) for sale/trade are in the thread.
In otherwords, the thread is the sale. No linking to an ebay auction or something of the like to draw traffic. If you have created a webpage that has pictures of your item(s) for a visual aid, that is fine. Any threads that violate this rule will be deleted at the Mods discretion.
8. Commercial sites.
This is a touchy subject. The Mods have discussed this topic and have decided that threads from commercial sites are permitted. But, to keep things in check so this room doesn?t turn into a traffic farm for commercial suppliers, we are adding a few extra guidelines.
1.Only one new thread per week per business allowed.
2.It would be very nice to have the occasional special for M.A.I.L. Members only. (hint hint)
3.Commercial sites are to use the same rules as everyone else with the following exception:
They are allowed a link to their site with the sale, providing they give a good description of what is for sale, and it is for a specific item or line of items. No threads with "We're having a sale on rings. Click here." type of things.
These rules/guidelines are "Firmly Etched in Sand" and can be changed/edited at any time without notice. If a new situation comes up and creates a problem, we may make a new rule to cover it. If we find that something we have done is not working, we may change it, or get rid of it altogether. This is strictly up to the Mods who are in charge of the room.
Now, for the last bit, then you can go play.
For a rules infraction, the moderators will take the following steps.
1. First offence. The post will be edited by the moderator to put it into acceptable range of the rules. The offender will be PM'ed/emailed, or both with an explanation of why the post was moderated.
2. Second offence. The thread will be edited and locked. Again, the person causing the infraction will be PM'd/emailed or both with an explanation and warning.
3. Third offence. The post will be deleted outright and the person will be PM'd/Emailed or both, and the person will be placed on the probation list for a length of time.
4. The probation list is a list of members who have reached their three strikes and have been suspended in posting in the trading forum for a length of time specified by the Moderators and depending on the severity of the offense. If the member continues to be in violation, then the Moderators will take further steps that could lead to possibly having their membership status revoked.
5. The Moderators have been given authority over the Trading room and are the last word in any debate. There is no one higher to take your issue too. Your Trading Room Moderators are Rygar and Deirdre. You will notice if you click on the link for "Trading Room Mods" there are several listed. Please note; the additional mods are for back up purposes only. DO NOT go to them if one of the main moderators has all ready told you "no". We are your new gods, fear us. (j/k)
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions for the room please feel free to PM or Email your room moderators. They would be glad to hear from you.
And don't forget, M.A.I.L. is a non-profit organization, your donation will always be gladly accepted.
Now that you have read all this long-winded, but necessary stuff, you can go play in the Trading Room.
Your friendly room moderators.
Rygar and Deirdre
