Hi. I know that in order to prevent the black rub-off you get with aluminum, you need to have it acid etched, or anodized.

My question is, do all the aluminum alloys have this problem? I've seen over 40 different commercially available aluminum alloys, do they all have this problem?

Thanks

Typically, Bright aluminum doesn't have that problem. TRL sells it.

You can boil, bake, wash, and spray with clear coat. However the etching will last longer than any of that and anodizing will outlast etching (and look prettier too).

Is the Bright Aluminum a different alloy or resulting from some treatment. If an alloy, anyone know the number?

The 'bright' aluminum that The Ring Lord sells is in fact a rather bright coloured alloy of aluminum (5154 in fact), but there is a LOT of black rub off.

The bright aluminum that DeCordene Wireworks sells is a different alloy (5356), which apparently has NO black rub off at all.
