There has been som talk in this location about whether or not to ask for donations, but the first number I've seen so far is $20 for excess bandwidth.

How much does this site cost?

How much would it cost to get more bandwidth from the ISP you use?

Can you do a survey to find out how many people would donate $1-3 a month to cover the cost?

How many people would it take to help?

And most important: If you consider this information private will you accept my apology for asking it so bluntly?

I asked a question here and it was so foolish I don't even want to show it.

SSH is fine with me, it is very secure (hence the name Smile - but I've known the most paranoid people to allow SSH.
If we don't have any SSH/telnet access though, the thumbnails won't be happening any more, unless they want to install the program themselves. That's the main thing. The other thing is that if there's a problem with a script it could take me 1 hour to debug it versus 5 minutes with telnet/SSH.
Otherwise I'm very glad to hear that you have a good lead for us! it will help a lot!

Think I've got the solution Uber

Only one prob...my boss isn't keen on turning on telnet (and maybe ssh, not sure). I've got direct controll of it tho, so we can install anything we need. If you're dead set on telnet, Mari, I can talk to him.

It's a linux server, btw.

I think I saw a message from a friend who was talking about one from angelfire that $70 bucks with no ads. Have you checked that one out? If not I hope it means that it won't pop up all those annoying windows they do.
I've gotten to the point where I don't go to *@angelfire.com anymore because of those.

I'm pretty sure it's after the first 5 gigs, it's $10/gig.

When you say $10 each time do you mean each hit you get after 5 gigs or after every 5 gigs?

Nah, this isn't private information. In fact, we can be quite blunt about asking for donations Smile
Every time we go over the allotted 5 gigs/month, we have to pay $10. The server we're on now won't let us pay a one time fee or anything to raise that 5 gigs so we're stuck with it until switching. After the initial $150 or $200 that it cost to get this space, we're paying $70/year just for the hosting service (which is coming up due soon I believe). We've been trying to explore other options to find hosting companies that will give us more bandwidth, I think the best one we've found charges about $100/year.
Sorry that was so long, but I hope it answered your questions! Smile

$70 a year. Unlimited bandwidth. I use it. No complaints at all.
