Hello,

I am trying to begin making a medieval byrnie, short sleeve with length going down to thigh about. I have looked hard to find any how tos or guides on how to make such a maille shirt with european 1 in 4 weave but find nothing, is there any articles like this with pics that anyone is aware of?

Thanks

Dean

There must be an armor how to or at least a link to external sites. Did you try the search here or google? Maybe someone will be more help but if you look into expanding and 45, 90 degree seams im sure you could formulate a strategy.

Okay, I made a hauberk a few months ago and a question came up at the shop: at what point does a hauberk become a dress?

I'd have to say never. After all, in itself it's much too airy.

Hauberks come to the end of their practicality at kneecap length. After that they are too heavy and they beat on you when you walk; extremely irksome, maybe even bloody. Our ancient forebears resorted to fitted mail chausses for down there.
