It's time to pick your favorite entry for Theme Contest 30 - Headwear. Everyone has one vote. Voting will be open until the end of the day on Monday February 8, 2016. Here are the entries, in the order they were submitted. There is a link under each one so that you can see additional pictures and read the details of each one. PLEASE make sure you click on the link under each picture for more pictures and descriptions! SRSLY! CLICKY CLICKY!

Contest Rules
1. Entries must be previously unsubmitted work. Entries must be at least 2/3 maille woven within the time frame of the contest. The remaining 1/3 can be any maille previously woven or any non-maille. Maille consists of any rings, metal or otherwise, or ring substitutes like scales or pop tabs. Non-maille consists of things like beads or wire wraps.

2. You can submit as many entries as you like.

3. Pictures and descriptions of the entry must be submitted to the contest submission thread before the deadline, by hosting the pictures offsite and placing the picture in your post with the Img link. Please don't make us hunt for your entry because it is posted on another site. (In other words, you need to use an image hosting site to place your picture in the entry thread. They are free to use, you just have to register with them to create an account. Some examples of image hosting sites are TinyPic, Photobucket, Flickr, and ImageShack.) Pictures must be a MAXIMUM of 100KB and a MAXIMUM of 800px per side.

4. The submission period for entries generally lasts 12 weeks. After the deadline for contest entries, the contest organizer will create a voting thread with all the entries, to be voted on by the membership. The entire membership may vote, each member having one vote. Polls usually last one week before the winner is declared.

5. The winner of the contest will receive a colored shield by their avatar with a number corresponding to the contest they won. The winner will also be granted automatic inclusion of their suggestion on the list of themes for the next contest.

6. The contest organizer may invalidate any entry. If you have concerns about your or any other entry, please contact the contest organizer with a PM. If the contest organizer deems it necessary, a new thread for public discussion will be opened.

Maybe one of these contests, I'll actually vote for my own submission. It's too bad (for my chances at winning) that someone always does something I view as more impressive than my own work.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why let that stop you voting for what you like? Confused

I still vote for what I like, I just consciously try to vote for things I don't think anyone has voted for

Then it makes voting more interesting and varied. Similar to why voting is secret now, where results used to be visible before you voted. There are some contests where I never expect a single vote, so when I get one I'm like Coif Cool Smiley

vote for the entry
that best represents the theme
often that's hard though

Tell a mailler what ring sizes to use and they'll weave for a day. Teach them AR and they'll weave forever.

its not as if we are voting for the queen of France, the important thing is we make it to the polls to exercise our demovratic rights.

Yep. My goal in these contests (when I manage to enter!) is to get one vote. Just think - that is one person who thought I should win! That's the way I decided to look at it, anyway. Actually winning... it isn't impossible, but it's highly unlikely. If I deluded myself into thinking I could win, I would be in for a lot of frustration and heartbreak. Stupid thing to do to myself.

As it is, I enjoy these competitions for the challenge of doing something I might otherwise not have done, in a timely fashion, with a bunch of other people.

I don't understand this attitude at all. Whenever I make something new I do everything I can to make sure it's the best thing I've made yet. I've been fortunate enough in the contests I've entered that what I considered to be good work has been similarly recognized by the community. Regardless of the community's opinions, however, I would't enter something I did not think could win unless I made multiple entries. I know I'm probably alone in this, but I see these contests as not only an idea to build a piece I might not have otherwise considered, but also as a chance to really flex my own abilities with maille and expand the art form in the process. That being said, not every entry needs to push the boundaries of the craft to be "worthy" of winning, but I feel like giving anything less than your best effort is regrettable. I'm not trying to call anyone or any specific entries out or anthing, but when you talk about your chances of winning being "highly unlikely" and how you'd have to "delude yourself into thinking you could win" it leads me to believe that you are the only one holding yourself back from building something great.

My submissions are usually structurally complex, but don't look pretty. I always submit them because why make it and not share it?

It's more about the competition. If I submit something I really like and had a ton of fun making, and someone else who owns more rings, or more sizes of rings submits something that just blows mine out of the water, I'm not going to rescind my creation and try again. I make one largish order of rings every few years, so in some contests, I just can't compete with someone who has way more options than me. I happened to win once, with something I absolutely love and wear all the time, but I didn't submit it thinking "I'm going to win this contest!" I'm here to have fun, and I do that.
