Had nowhere near enough rings for my first idea, and got pretty down about it. But then I came up with something else. Should be finished tomorrow if I really work at it. I need to figure out if I have any jewelry wire though... hmm.

I was... but as I said it didn't work out. Maybe I will try again without a deadline sometime.

As per contest rules, be sure that all those bells and whistles constitute less than 1/3rd. Coif Cool Smiley

I also have something in the works, I'll be cutting it close to the contest end time (as usual).

With any luck all of the bells and whistles will be 100% maille. Don't worry about that!

My Entry: Color Graduating Headdress

Front:

Side:

Back:

Closeup:

Band is E4-1 on the bias. Front is woven together so it comes to a point. I removed a few rings from the 'corners' on the back and then wove the ends together. Dangling bits are Moon42 with 3 small pearls on each side, to frame the face.

16g 1/4" Anodized Aluminum:
49 Black Ice
56 Royal Blue
56 Sky Blue
190 Light Blue
148 Seafoam
52 Green

6 light blue pearls

Dwarven Visage.

The top of the piece consists of three Dragonscale diamonds in 14 swg, 7/16" and 16 swg, 5/16" stainless steel, joined with European 4 in 1 in 14 swg, 5/16" stainless.

The sides are Half Persian 3 Sheet 6 in 1 in 14 swg, 7/16" stainless steel with Interwoven 4 in 1 seams between each panel. The Persian parts flow seamlessly from the diagonal edges of the Dragonscale diamonds.

The nose and forehead guard are also HP3-1S6 in 16 swg, 5/16" stainless with an IE4-1 seam.

The horns are Half Persian 5 in 1 in 14 swg, 7/16" stainless steel. This is the minimum AR for this weave so the structure is rigid at this size. Both chiralities of HP5-1 have been used for symmetry. These are bolted to the structure to ensure a rigid connection.

The beard is made from large TRL scales in tempered steel, with 14 swg, 5/16" stainless steel rings holding them together.

It weighs about 7 lbs.

Ready to defend Moria.

I made a hat.
It had too many rings (3728 alum, ~4k EPDM)
3/16" mandrel 0.047" alum rings (saw cut), AR of 4.12
European 6 in 1

Yes, that is below the minimum listed AR.
This hat doesn't seem physically possible.

I admit... I didn't pay attention to what the date was. I didn't realize that yesterday was the 29th until CMB informed me. I will start the voting thread tonight.
