It's time to vote for the theme of Contest 23. You have one week to decide and then we can all start weaving some awesome entries! Voting will end on Monday Oct. 28th!

_____________________________________________
Contest Rules
1. Entries must be previously unsubmitted work. Entries must be at least 2/3 maille woven within the time frame of the contest. The remaining 1/3 can be any maille previously woven or any non-maille. Maille consists of any rings, metal or otherwise, or ring substitutes like scales or pop tabs. Non-maille consists of things like beads or wire wraps.

2. You can submit as many entries as you like.

3. Pictures and descriptions of the entry must be submitted to the contest submission thread before the deadline, by hosting the pictures offsite. (In other words, you need to use an image hosting site to place your picture in the entry thread. They are free to use, you just have to register with them to create an account. Some examples of image hosting sites are TinyPic, Photobucket, Flickr, and ImageShack.) Pictures must be a MAXIMUM of 100KB and a MAXIMUM of 800px per side.

4. The submission period for entries generally lasts 12 weeks. After the deadline for contest entries, the contest organizer will create a voting thread with all the entries, to be voted on by the membership. The entire membership may vote, each member having one vote. Polls usually last one week before the winner is declared.

5. The winner of the contest will receive a colored shield by their avatar with a number corresponding to the contest they won. The winner will also be granted automatic inclusion of their suggestion on the list of themes for the next contest.

6. The contest organizer may invalidate any entry. If you have concerns about your or any other entry, please contact the contest organizer with a PM. If the contest organizer deems it necessary, a new thread for public discussion will be opened.

I thought 'Christmas' was proposed and seconded - did it miss the deadline?

I thought it was too! It was even listed in the thread as seconded.

I'm not going to vote yet, because I was going to vote for Christmas. It seems like the perfect theme for this time of year!

Christmas is an okay idea. Just remember that the submission period is tentatively scheduled to run from Oct. 29 - Jan. 20. Twenty-six days (about 1/3) of this period is after Xmas, and generally speaking most people are sick of and don't want to think about Christmas anymore after it's over. At least not until the following year.

I know I pasted christmas in, at the bottom of the list. I even made sure and checked each entry against my list... I don't know why it didn't show up after I hit submit. Anyway, oops. Rolling Eyes I added it back to the list since it hasn't even been a day of voting.

Nothing says that people can't do Christmas items for Myth and Legend, should it win. Razz A lot of the trappings/symbols are pagan in origin anyway. *grin*

FYI: Christmas is actually something very important to some folks.
Important enough that a flipant comment can be rather offensive.

I think that most people that are regulars on this site have a passion or two that are very important to them. Passions that others don't appriciate.

I'm a fire fighter (that means I spend a third of my life living in a frat house) I'm fairly thick skinned about most things. However, I don't tend to let things go when you are making fun of things that I am passionate about.

When folks at work give me a hard time about my maille hobby, I don't let it go unanswered.

Here at my hobby, I'm not gonna let someone talk bad about what I base my life on. At least not just let it go.

I know no one wanted to offend. And I didn't want to either. But this is the only way I could figure to make my point.

Gotta agree with Firemedic - though I do appreciate myth and legend, too.

Agree with Firemedic, although I appreciate a good joke. I knew that it was a joke and I don't look at it offensive, but others might.

Just a hint for those tempted to make certain jokes about something that a lot of people around the globe base their livese on: don't! Wink

Santa Clause is legendary.

No joke.

I'm supporting Firemedic on this one. I do think CMB has a good point, though. I associate the trees and colors and lights etc. with Santa more than with Jesus.

It's not that actual mythology isn't an interesting and cool subject to me; I just don't see it in chainmail. Stuff like Christmas and the elements seems far more applicable.

P.S. To be fair to Djgm,
Legend:
A story from the past that is believed by many people but cannot be proved to be true.
A story coming down from the past, especially one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable.
A person or thing that inspires legends.

Don't turn this thread into an argument about Christmas. It doesn't belong here. I'm serious. It's on the list. Leaving it off was an honest mistake on my part and it's fixed.

I think Myth and Legend is a great theme for a contest.

I can think if all kinds of ideas that would be awesome...If only I had a little more skill.
