Hi, I'm new here and I was hoping someone could help me with something.

I want to recreate this spiral weave you see below on the shoulders (looks like a braid) and in the library I found a weave called "6 in 1 spiral" which looks to be the one they used, not sure though

Here are some images (click to enlarge - they're huge)

and here's a video as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2EdfkeGIwY

So now I think I know what weave it is, I need to know what size rings to get.. that part is REALY confusing..
They obviously need to be quite large, and quite thick..

Does anybody have an idea? Please let me know..

Thanks Very Happy

p.s. amazing website, great resource!

those links are not standard links, they are tapered where they connect and i suspect hollow through the middle to help with what would otherwise be too much weight. I dare say a courageous look though.

Take a look at Spiral 8-in-2 http://www.mailleartisans.org/weaves/weavedisplay.php?key=22 it makes a nice spiral chain which is stable (doesn't untwist). Also, it is easy to weave and not especially fussy about aspect ratio of the rings.

more corded than a braid really but the weave is spiral 6 in 1 yes.

I agree it looks like spiral 6-1 on the shoulders.

Thanks for the quick replies! So I guess I'll be making a spiral 6 in 1 then

Any ideas on what rings to get and where to buy them? They appear to be pretty thick and large, but the different numbers are a bit confusing...
some actual numbers to get me in the right direction would be nice lol

and thanks again!

the biggest wire you might find would be around 0.1" which is nowhere near that thickness in the thicker parts. you would need 0.1" wire 5/8"links to make a pretty spiral 6 in 1 but it will not look the same as that picture. Those are not standard links.

I'm pretty sure that you would be looking more at rod diameters for the "wire" rather than wire diameters if you want to try to attempt to duplicate that at that scale.

yeah, I guess I'll make the coils myself then. What wire diameter do you think I'll need? around 5mm (4 awg) ?
