Hello guys!

any one know how to calculate chain dimensions? for exmpl. I want to make bizantine from silver wire. 400mm long and 200grams weight my wire is 3mm diameter so what size should be ring diameter. it's just example. maybe exist some specialized soft for chain calculations? thanx for help! Hello!

Maybe you should read the article about the AR. It explains the relationship of wire diameter and inner diameter of the ring. There is also a nice picture with the byzantine weave (with different ring sizes).
BTW you'll get a nice tight weave with an AR of 3.5.

3 mm wire?!? That's around 8-9 gauge, and it is very, very thick for byzantine.

We can use this example, anyway, with my Excel calculator. I plugged in 3 mm for the gauge and 3.7 for the AR (which looks pretty nice). Based on these specs, you will need rings with an inner diameter of 11.1 mm. Huge!

I often use 20 gauge wire (0.81 mm diameter wire) to make rings with a 3.0 mm inner diameter. AR = 3 / 0.81 = 3.7

You can view / download my Excel calculator on my chainmaille resources page here http://chainofbeauty.wordpress.com/chainmaille-resources/
