Since there was a tie, the last winner of the Theme Contest breaks the tie. I tossed a coin and Stretchy Maille won. (Okay, truth be told... I don't see the point in pointless armour so I chose Stretchy Maille...)

It's time to start making some stretchy maille! Entries will be accepted from now until Monday April 2, 2012. Submit your entries in this thread. Please be sure to read and follow the rules of the contest listed below. (Seriously, read them, follow them! If you have questions, just ask.) Also, don't put any pictures in here that aren't actual submissions, as I will be forced to beat you for eternity with fire and brimstone. Very Happy (It's just really confusing to sort them out.) If you plan on entering the contest, let me know in here with an "I'm in". Okay! Ready, Set, Go make something stretchy!

_____________________________________________
Contest Rules
1. Entries must be previously unsubmitted work. Entries must be at least 2/3 maille woven within the time frame of the contest. The remaining 1/3 can be any maille previously woven or any non-maille. Maille consists of any rings, metal or otherwise, or ring substitutes like scales or pop tabs. Non-maille consists of things like beads or wire wraps.

2. You can submit as many entries as you like.

3. Pictures and descriptions of the entry should be submitted to the contest submission thread before the deadline, by hosting the pictures offsite. (In other words, you need to use an image hosting site to place your picture in the entry thread. They are free to use, you just have to register with them to create an account. Some examples of image hosting sites are TinyPic, Photobucket, Flickr, and ImageShack.) Pictures should be a MAXIMUM of 100Kb and a MAXIMUM of 800px per side.

4. The submission period for entries generally lasts 12 weeks. After the deadline for contest entries, the contest organizer will create a voting thread with all the entries, to be voted on by the membership. The entire membership may vote, each member having one vote. Polls usually last one week before the winner is declared.

5. The winner of the contest will receive a colored shield by their avatar with a number corresponding to the contest they won. The winner will also be granted automatic inclusion of their suggestion on the list of themes for the next contest.

6. The contest organizer may invalidate any entry. If you have concerns about your or any other entry, please contact the contest organizer with a PM. If the contest organizer deems it necessary, a new thread for public discussion will be opened.

I have thousands of big black rubber rings. I don't like what my dad says they should be. So in the interest of rings not being defiled I'm in.

Question: Would be pieces valid, where the rings (and so the basic, unmodified maille piece) are not stretchy, but the piece made from with the help of threaded-through rubber bands is - like seen in my personal style of making stretchy claspless bracelets?

Human societies are like chain mail.
A single link will be worth nothing.
A chain is of use, but will break at the weakest link.
A weak weave will have the need to replace weak links.
A strong weave will survive even with weak links included.

Sounds "stretchy", Zili! As the word was not defined further, I think the interpretation can be liberal, and left to your discretion, and of course, to the voters.

It was a very interesting and close race. I never knew how a tie would be broken, I thought there might have been a quick run-off election of the top two contenders.

Hmm, "stretchy"... gears turning...

Contest #5's theme vote was a tie too, so Mical settled the theme of #5.

I guess it was decided that nobody wanted to wait longer for the contest to start.

Tell a mailler what ring sizes to use and they'll weave for a day. Teach them AR and they'll weave forever.

Well, stretchy maille is certainly better than pointless armor, imho so yay Lorraine. Razz

Oh, and FYI, your last line says "Okay! Ready, Set, Go make something beady! "

I think you might want to change that to say "Go make something stretchy!" Razz

Yep, the theme is stretchy and we are not in the habit of over-defining simple themes, so I say go for it Zili!

One of the past themes was Handflowers and the winner was an inlay of a hand holding a flower (instead of the usual piece of jewelry called a handflower). Razz I say interpret stretchy any way you want to!

I thought mainly of rubberrings and the amazing-strechy things you do with the thread (i remember how i saw one of those and got really obsessed with the idea of a weave that would be strechy on it's own, until i asked and yoh revealed the thing with the thread. ^^

And if anyone has another idea or interpretation, i think nobody would reject it ^^ i would be thrilled fo see it.

Grin - asking about contest-legality of SPRINGY things in maille, similar to my GSG torc I showed somewhen, would surely stretch the definition a bit?

The painffull sensation of a bad play of words - me likey ^^. Something sprjngy can also be something strechy, so why not? It is certainly a pretty neat idea - especially for those who might not want to make something with rubber.

I'm in. I think I just enough supplies left to make something for this contest. The lower I get on rings, the more creative I seem to get.

I guess you should count me 'in' as well. I have not yet a prize-worthy idea in mind, but maybe will find one...
