Hey Folks,

So, you're a member of MAIL, but you feel like you might want to do a little more around here?
Never fear, do we have the job for you!

It's thankless, unpaying, grueling, and we might even set your toes on firre.
Interested? Great! Read on:

We're always on the lookout for prospective BOD members... So that when the need arises, we can nominate someone.
The trouble is, how do we know if someone is interested?
That's simple! They'll be sure to post in this thread indicating that at some future time (real life allowing) they'd be interested in lending a hand around here.

Interested? Leave a note! Let us know where your interests and skills lie!

I know you're looking more for new blood, but I'll reiterate that I'm always happy to lend a hand with coding stuff if DL ever gets around to segmenting his work instead of doing it all himself.

I'm handy in php/SQL which is supposed to be the backend of the mythical 3.0, and if you want more info I'll be happy to provide.

I'm not sure how I feel about burning toes, however doing some work for the site seems like a great way to help pay back this awesome community.

My main skills are in server administration, so not that helpful here. However I feel that I have a reasonable command of the English language, so editing may be up my alley.

I'm not entirely positive what other tasks can be found around the site, so there may be something else I'd be good at as well.

I would be interested in helping out in any way possible. I don't have much programming experience, but I am told that I am trainable.

Even if it is not as a BOD member let me know and I will help in any area I can.

As far as the toes go, it wouldn't be the first time they have been put to the flame.

Let me interject at this point, since this seems to be a lot of what people are saying in their posts...

MAIL has very little need for coders... At least at the current juncture... Where the site redesign/code porting is concerned, it would take more time to bring someone up to speed on the current code and functions I have written, than it would to finish up myself. Coif LoL
This is in no way meant to slight any of you, or your skills... Just a matter of fact.

What MAIL does need, however, is volunteers willing to help out around the site... Now, and in the future. MAIL is ever changing, and life takes chunks of peoples time away.

People to keep an eye on submissions as they come in for inappropriate content.
People with good grammar and spelling skills to check things.
People with good personal skills to act as moderators, mediators.

etc...

That being said, everyone who has already, and continues to post in this thread is now "on the radar" as it were Smile

there seems to be some confusion.. most of the help we end up needing is basic decision making. lotos has the coding end of things wrapped up..

so, our bad for not explaining the sort of responsibilities that the average admin has.

each submission needs to be reviewed.

our links admins look at new link submissions and look over the site. check the site to make sure it's not porn and a couple other basic things. they also periodically go over old links and make sure they are still active.

each area of the site has someone in charge of it. as of the other evening i'm in charge of the "teaching groups" area.

the list is huge. anyone want to help me go through it?

this would be an example of a way to help that wouldn't require a formal admin vote, since no admin panel access is needed.. i believe that i can just form an ad-hoc committee.

there may be other things of this nature that need doing on occasion.

are you into graphic arts? are you really reasonable in the face of adversity? what is your superpower?

Links jocky, sites examiner, proof-reading... Just tell me what & how you want it done and I will work on it.

My superpower - I'm willing to learn ALMOST anything. *not sure about that belly dancing yet Smile *

I'd be interested in photo approvals. I speak English but I'd likely miss a lot of grammatical errors in proofreading, but my spelling is pretty good so I'd be up for a bit of that as well, if needed.

I seem to have a tendency to vanish for months at a time, sometimes, but I'll volunteer.

Interested in weaves, capable at editing and proofreading.

I'll volunteer for pretty much anything that needs done should it arise, I'm not as active as I used to be but I still check in every couple of days and I've been around long enough that It'd feel good to give back to the site that's helped me for the last couple of years. I'm good with grammar and spelling or whatever you feel like assigning me Smile
