| Unable to make PDF of M.A.I.L. webpages |

I download tutorials and articles with Paparazzi, a Mac OSX program that downloads web pages as PDFs so I can view them on my Android tablet as I am weaving.
But recently most any M.A.I.L. page I download with Paparazzi shows up as a 800x600 black block, no text or pictures. I've emailed the author and I'm waiting for a response.
I've installed wkpdf, a command line tool for Mac that does the same thing, but I get a long, black rectangle.
Both programs work on other web sites.
Has the HTML code for M.A.I.L. changed in the past month?
Thanks,
David |

Daemon_Lotos is currently gallivanting around Europe. But he'll be back soon (a week maybe...), and I'm sure will have an intelligent answer for you. I however, do not have one.

This may be a totally stupid question, because I don't really know anything about this, but I'm gonna ask it anyway... Have you tried clicking on the "View Printable Version" link at the bottom of each article and then doing whatever it is you are doing?

Yep, it has.
That being said, both pieces of software SHOULD be able to recognize the code and handle it... Obviously they can't...
When you speak to the author of the software, mention that the site in question contains its content buried completely inside a DIV.
You can also give him my devlopment@mailleartisans.org email address should he have any questions.
In the meanwhile, the workaround Lorraine suggested should be good.
Rethink: This is interesting... The only code change at MAIL has not affected the Articles section yet... So it is NOT the "Site within a DIV" issue.
(Sidenote for the curious, sections affected by the code change include the Homepage, Weaves, and Forum)
Double Rethink: There is a minor CSS change that has affected the entire site, articles included... And that is enforcing a minimum width... It's strange that should screw everything up... As I said, suggest the author contact me.

Hi Lorraine,
I guess I need to change the area of my issue.
I checked again and I was able to download PDFs of the Articles, from their original pages or from the Printable Version with Paparazzi.
It appears to be mainly the New Weaves and the Forum threads. Paparazzi can make a PNG or JPG of them but I prefer PDF because if I zoom in the text doesn't get fuzzy.
Printing a PDF using the OSX command only shows one page with a large white margin/frame.
I do have a work around, save the page as HTML with a folder and open it as text with Dolphin Browser Mini on my 7" X6D Android Tablet (X5A).
I use the Tablet to review the weave tutorials during my breaks at work and when I am actually working on a weave.
I guess it isn't a big deal because the new weaves usually don't have much info and I rarely read the forum threads offline.

The author has said that he'll look for a workaround when he can.
If I seriously need a page for now I'll save it as HTML w/folder and maybe as a PNG then wrap it in a PDF with PDFLab.

This should be fixed.
There are also some new CSS tweaks in place to make Printed Pages of MAIL more... User Friendly...
(AKA: Removal of the top menu and the footer.)

DL when the footer is removed, it also removes the copyright notice. Do we want this?

As I've always said... Those that want to use MAIL's information lawfully, will. After all, a printout contains the page title and URL.
Those who want to circumvent, won't be bothered by having to photocopy a printout after whiteing out a copyright notice.
Beside, the footer was never designed to be printed... It contains other stuff besides the copyright notice.
That being said, I may use CSS to tag something else onto the bottom of printed pages if it proves to be a bone of contention.
