Oh you shameless femaillers - capturing 'my' thread, and showing JPL7, before I could succeed. But I'll do it the hard, male way by NOT using colors and using NOTHING softer than steel or spring bronze...

BTW Lorraine: congrats to the achievement.

But after reviewing your photo I'm somewhat unsure, whether yo really did JPL7, or the 'false JPL6' variant - as the dark rings atop the golden ones seem to have the same lean?

Human societies are like chain mail.
A single link will be worth nothing.
A chain is of use, but will break at the weakest link.
A weak weave will have the need to replace weak links.
A strong weave will survive even with weak links included.

Hmm. That's disappointing to say the least. I'm going to do some more work. Crazy, here I come.

Don't worry. I already reached that state, when attempting JPL5, and ran into the 'JPL4' stopgap - but finally got it. And I ran into the 'JPL6' as well, when attempting to 'expand' an existing, as loose as possible woven JPL5 to JPL7 (as Kodiak gave us a hint about that possibility). But maybe that is the intermediate step and can be expanded further? KODIAK?!?!?

Try it - it either drives you nuts, or makes you an addict, attempting to reach the next level - and there is ALWAYS a next level...

That's right, show these pesky womens how *real* chainmaille is made!

You're well on your way to hitting the most complicated weave ever, JPL(13). Soon soon, we'll be one step closer to Gaanon's rhetorical demands of JPL(27) Razz. That'll teach him for setting a goal he thinks is unreachable :p

I've been spending a fair amount of time over the last year, trying to figure out other minimalized AR weaves. Hexwebs, all kinds of things. JPL is a bridging point to sculpture.

You've got it Legba, YEA! Lorraine, you're close....you should name it, but if my thinking is correct, it doesn't bend consistently in all directions?

YAY!

Well that wasn't too terrible, not once you're past the 9th ring. Maybe I'll give JPL 7 a go soon.

Yeah, it's real bendy in one direction, and very stiff in the opposite.

Legba, I showed my husband my "I thought this was JPL5" and his reply was, "This ring here looks like it isn't closed very well". GRR!

At least he is into helping you produce a quality piece. My wife just looks at it and I can hardly get a response. The only time I did get a response was to a HP3-1 ring she liked and since I made her one she has only worn it once. Some involvement is better than none.

I have to say, in my husband's defense, he is my biggest supporter and my biggest fan. He really is a sweetheart. And he is not making me say that. Really!

@sara: hmm - there are some things in your example that could be improved (no, NOT primarily the cuts'n'closures, that don't matter much here) - There is A COMPLETE RING sitting faulty - hint: the horizontal leftmost one... And that isn't a piece of jewellery - and without feathers!!!11111.....

But don't worry - I didn't manage JPL7 yet (and do not worry much about).

Okay, this felt right while I was making it, but I await the judgement of "someone who knows about these things" to give me a yea or a nay.
Is this JPL7?

On the far right are some out of place rings. I fixed that after I took the picture. The darker section on the far left is made with smaller rings but they got too tight to continue.
