Dragon-scale Belt
1.2mm Stainless 8.8mm ID
0.8mm Stainless 5.1mm ID

weight just under a pound (or 420g for those of us using metric)

Front (Tucked in)

Front (Hanging down)

Back (sorry for off center shot)

Detail

Rolled up

I really pushed to get this done, 3 days total. I was thinking of doing a Dragon-scale shirt ...
given the work the belt took, I think I might try an easier (and lighter) weave for the shirt.

How many hours did that take you?

I made a DS belt from 16ga. - 1/4" and 3/8"(I think). I ran the grain opposite yours, and the clasp I made similar to a regular belt. So you had to stab a piece of 14ga wire through the weave somewhere. It ended up opening and unweaving some of the rings.

Your clasp looks much less dangerous, though. Just thought I'd share my experience.

Nice looking belt. Anyone have the conversions from metric to standard?

8.8mm = 0.346 inch (just jarger than 11/32)
5.1mm = 0.2 inch (just larger than 13/64)

I'd guess it took about 30-40 hours from wire to finished belt.

I made the clasp by hammering some nails (with a diameter slightly thicker than the wire I used for the rings) into a board in the same positions as the rings would be and bending the wire around the nails.

Hope that helps Smile

Here is a pic of the board with the nails in it that I used to bend the clasp.

I've just done some maille cuffs and there is some more detail (not much)
on bending a clasp in the thread I'll be doing on those.
