Is ther something blocking me from putting in fake HTML?
Stuff like
<rant>Why can't I use fake HTML</rant>
or
<jumping with joy>Hooray, you're back</jumping with joy>
:???
<edit>I was able to do this by blocking all HTML, but i'd like to use little stuff like <b> and <i> as well</edit>

| I just use it as a joke really, a different way of putting different emotions into a comment. The emoticons are nice, but they aren't really that broad. (c: |

Showing stuff like that and ascii art is pretty much all it's good for (that I know of).

is this "fake" HTML used by posters to explain how to write HTML, or do posters use it for other reasons, I guess I do not understand using it with out any real purpose, just curious, since I used to make web pages a few years back and I only used raw HTML using notepad

yes - you can use entity references. those start with an ampersand "&" and end with a semicolon ";"..
To make a set of brackets, "<>", use the entities "<" and ">" (so <foo> would be written as <foo>) |
