Gender in the profile

I was wondering if we could add the gender of a member in his profile and in the side bar next to his post. It?s really confusing not to know the gender of whom you are speaking to. It could be just that I?m used to Hebrew, which in all form of address (first person and so on) gives the gender of the person in question, but I would really like to see it here.
Any thought?

Thanks, Eli I

I wouldn't mind seeing a little "M" or "F" in a member's profile, for, if nothing else, clarification purposes.

OK. The 'salutation' field is now displayed after the full name in the profiles...

I leave it to you lot to convince people to fill them in now...

But wouldn?t it be easier just to make a Male/Female selection? Especially since some (or even most) people don?t know what each of them mean.

Cheers, Eli I

Umm. Are you saying that most people here don't know what "Mr.", "Mrs." and Ms." mean? That seems kind of unlikely...

At any rate, the database only has gender data stored as salutations, so you're looking at what we've got.

If you really think people can't figure out gender from the titles, I suppose I could have the system say "F" if the salutation is "Ms." or "Mrs.", and "M" is the salutation is "Mr.", but it seems to me like most folks could figure it out!

I agree that I'd rather have the option of M or F instead of Mr., Mrs, etc... I would happily put my gender, but I never liked that salutation business meself. Though I'll happily admit I'm married, I HATE "Mrs.", it's just...ugly. Razz

Umm... Well, it could be done, I suppose, but every member would have to go back and re-enter their data for it to be helpful.

How about if I added two more salutations, something like "Female - Unspecified Salutation", and "Male - Unspecified Salutation" (or something like that), that would display as "M" and "F"? That way the old data would still work, and you could still have your desired letters...

Is there any way to make the gender appear near the name of the person on the board? It?s inconvenient that you need to go to the profile for such a minor yet important detail. Maybe add it with the rest of the info there (Gender: M/F)?
We can always run a poll about this.

Cheers, Eli I

Anyway, it's missing the salutation "God Emperor"... Rolling Eyes

OK, folks. You want it, you got it! There is now a Male/Female option without the Mr. or Mrs. stuff.

I'm sure the board could be hacked to display it, but you'd have to ask woody....
