Hi all,

I have searched online for a long time trying to find mild steel wire, I am looking for 1.5mm mild steel but all I find is MIG welder wire with the right thickness that is coated in copper. Can this be annealed or is it poisonous like Galvanized when heated up? I do not want to buy any pre made rings I want to rivet all my own rings that I have made but I am struggling to find anywhere in the UK that sells mild steel wire. Anyone in the UK point me in the direction?

Thanks

Dean

Zinc in the galvanized is the thing that makes noxious fumes. Melting copper would be less problematic. However, all metal is toxic to some extent, and proper ventilation should be used whenever heating.

MIG wire is good for butted mail because it is very uniform in size, and medium hard temper. For riveted, you need dead soft annealed. That is rebar tie wire (see response on your other post). Coif Smiley
