Oh my goodness...this is such a difficult decision. How do you pick just one when they all look so cool?

I haven't voted yet, Zili. You will have to talk to the coder monkey... errrr... DL about your vote.

(bites nails over leading contenders)

I love these Theme Contests. They challenge me to do things I've never done before... and I get to see all the clever and lovely stuff that other people do.

Fishy would imply it was done on purpose. And since I'm the only one with access to the backend, I can only hope that you're not implying it was done on purpose... Surprised

Normally I'd do this via PM, but then normally I'd have been PM'd over something like this rather than it being posted in the forums...

*Database Diving Initiated*

I can see that you did, in fact, vote.

The way the DB stores votes involves the voter and the vote cast being separated from each other, so I have nothing to tell me WHAT you voted for, only that your vote was recorded.

They are stores in two separate tables, completely unlinked for some forsaken reason.
This contest is store by the phpBB software as Vote #574
I can see that in Vote #574, userid 10488 (That's you, ZiLi) did in fact cast a vote from a similar IP address you have cast all your previous votes from.

I have also checked the results table, versus the results displayed at the header of the forum thread, and can guarantee that the results displayed match those stored in the database.

There have been (so far) 46 distinct userid's stored in the "Who has voted" database.
If I add up all the individual numbers stored in the "Vote totals" database (because phpBB could be using the "Who has voted" in what it displays on the forum thread results page) those also total 46.

My logic dictates to me, that since the number of votes recorded in one database, and the number of people who have voted in the other database match each other, that your vote was recorded, and did not vanish... Thus you must have accidentally voted incorrectly...
A simple case of human error. No fish here. Coif LoL

I suspect that (if you're anything like me) you attempted to scroll down by pushing the down arrow on the keyboard, and accidentally moved your vote down one button instead... But then, what do I know...

---

tl;dr;

If you wish to alter your vote, that's (forgive the idiom) a completely different kettle of fish... Feel free to drop me a PM and we can discuss Smile

I know what I voted for - comparably early in the voting process, when some entries had yet no votes. And as the entry shone up as having zero votes, after I saw the stats the first time, I assume that my vote (that shone up as black dot in the chosen spot before clicking the 'submit' button) landed at another entry. The 'fishy' remark should point to a possible code error - I did NOT imply, that someone 'tweaked' the system.

In the end the fact remains, that my vote is lost, and it was for one of the current top-five contenders (I am not used to vote for my own entries), so the plus or minus one could decide the outcome.

Besides that, I appeal to the voters and contenders to stay fair, and not use graveyard or instant-newuser votes - buddy votes are already bad enough but usual; these are also not overly fair, as the pieces and not submitters shall be voted for, but they're unavoidable, anyway...

The code itself does not change, and is a part of the phpBB software, and I have checked the logs for error messages, and malformed SQL statements, and found none, rest assured the code has been checked, it is functioning as designed.

Your vote is not lost, it is simply not where you intended to place it. Smile Given that this is simply a contest "for fun" I hardly think that a misplaced vote has much bearing at all... No more than my forgetting to vote repeatedly on other contests does... Did it technically affect the outcome? Possibly... Only Erwin Schrödinger knows for sure. Coif LoL

Well, in the hypothetical case that I were winner of a contest by e.g. one single vote, where such had been reported, I were never sure that I'd deserve it - or if I were the runner-up by one, I weren't as well, whether I might not be the real winner. And who knows for sure, if that was not a (naturally nonlogged) flipped bit by cosmic ray error or so (the lord might have sent it) - or a systematic error that might have happened more than once. If you assure me (you did with your post), that as far as you see there is no systematic or coding error, I'm ok with.

But doubts remain. So let's hope that the final winner wins with at least two votes in front of the runner-up (or 'my' voted entry isn't runner-up by one), so my vote cannot have changed the result.
