I usually do it with 18g (SWG) 5/16 ID for the larger rings and 18g (SWG) 3/16 ID for the larger rings.

Here is a jewelry set I made ...

The earrings were 16g, but locked up after a few links.

There is a tutorial. Scroll down to the variation in Orbital Vipera Berus and a Variation. Also on the weave page for Orbital Vipera Berus there are gallery examples of the weave at the bottom. You can click on "Show all" and you will see all the gallery pictures tagged with Orbital Vipera Berus. The first one is a bracelet with the inner rings doubled by Loke, the person who submitted Orbital Vipera Berus. http://www.mailleartisans.org/gallery/gallerylist.php?weavetags=Orbital+Vipera+Berus

Those will all give you various rings sizes you can use. Smile

I made this sample 14swg 1/2" and 16swg 5/16"last week when someone was asking about that weave..It bends both ways but the big ones slip to the side a bit.

I make the Viper Basket with 18 gauge (AWG, 1.02 mm) wire, 4.5 and 7.0 mm inner diameter.

With these specs, the chain looks like this:

I have also made it with a 3-3 center weave using 20 gauge (AWG, 0.81 mm), same ID, smaller rings, like this:
