dulling my mail hauberk

i need some advice on how to dull my mail. i just made it and its so shiny i put a few links in the fire it went a green brown color im not to happy with. i was thinking of bluing it but it will go to dark. i want a nice gray color like every other hauberk i see. any advice??

I've noticed if you use pickling solution like the stuff used to take off fire scale on stainless steel it will get darker.

First off, we absolutely must know what metal the mail is constructed of.

Welcome and well come, Bazron.

If it is galvanized steel wire, it will slowly weather darker, to a charcoalish gray. You can help it along a little by leaving it out in the damp.

Diamond drawn bright aluminum, welp, if Brownell's Catalog doesn't offer an aluminum blackening solution, you're on your own.

its all good i put the hole thing in vinegar over night. turned out nice and dark and still had a polished look to it.
