That is very nice of you. Other people would have just claim that the damage was done because the tools is defective, and that they never used anything the manufacturer did not recommended.

Stores may offer a warranty or may not. Most of the time they will contact the manufacturer to claim the warranty. You can do the same and contact directly the manufacturer.

Stainless steel is hard stuff even when up against hardened steel, it's quite possible they are both just as hard but because the ring is more focused from a pressure perspective it wins and the plier ...
