Yeah, definitely run it at low RPMs because they last much longer. It may be slower going, but in the long run, it's worth it.

I think that is is light reflecting off of the metal, though the color will rub off a little onto my glove when coiling and sometimes the pliers leave little marks.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. If you start out with a shirt, you will most likely experience "burnout" becase the project is so huge.

I don't think that you would have wire .50" thick. Might it be that you meant .05"? Anyhow, if you start out with 1/4" ID (Inner diameter) rings, I certainly would not try to make a suit of armor firs ...

I would just stay away from Dremels for cutting rings unless the rings are 3/8" ID or bigger because they will take off way too much material and cause the ring to be distorted if it is smaller that 3 ...
