Would you happen to know the gauge of the rings? I'm with DQ, it sounds like an aspect ratio thing...byzantine, in my experience, is pretty good about staying put.

Remarkable photography, too...maille is hard to take good pics of. You should write a tutorial for taking pics of maille, assuming such a thing hasn't already been done...
