sounds like AL more then to me if its that much of a black color that kind of penetrates, where as the steels black isnt ad bad casue its just from the oil.

not much of a way to get around it other ...

the gray you got on the blade is not more carbon getting in its carbon leaving, aka scale.

pipe with roundmaille on it. to make it easier to attach and give better grip you can also try using half rubber/noprean rings
