I agree with Derailed. Making rings just doesn't generate a sense of accomplishment in the student. I would mention that it can be done, but no more than that to begin with.

I regularly help out at the maille classes at conventions since becoming friends with some of the instructors. I would recommend starting with euro 4-1 sheet or the simple japanese weave, and just do ...
