I use little toothless Craftsman flatnose pliers. When I use 12 guage galvy, I grab the ring sideways. it's pretty much all grip technique so long as you've got the motions down.

I figure a fairly easy way to make a purse is to make a tube on E4-1, lay it flat, then stitch up one side, and work from there.

Honestly, it seems a bit of a waste to have flush cuts on galvy. It's a nearly worthless material, and doesn't really sell too well in jewelry. You may want to see if it'd be cheaper to get sawcut g ...

Hmm. Perhaps your arm holes are too small. It's pretty difficult to tell what you're taking about without a better description or photographs.
