Ficus Weave Tutorial
(CGI)
Article © MAIL User: thearmourman

Ficus is a chain weave made using units of rings. The ideal AR for this weave is an AR of 5. For example, you could use 14 AWG 3/8 inch ID rings.

Procedure

Step 1:
Start by creating a 2 in 2 unit. Two rings go through two other rings.

Step 2:
Add two more rings (blue) to one of the sets of two (red). Arrange it like in the picture.

Step 3:
Add a ring (blue) through the 4 rings (red) that are not connected together. Put it through the rightmost ring, then through the middle two rings, then through the leftmost ring. The unit should feel a little more rigid and hold its shape once you have done this. The left picture shows the front view, and the right picture shows a top down view.

Step 4:
Repeat Step 3 for the opposite side of the unit. After you do this, the unit should look symmetrical. The left picture shows the front view, and the right picture shows a top down view.

Step 5:
Repeat Steps 1-4 to make more identical units.

Step 6:
Orient two of the units the same way. Open the double vertical rings on one (blue), and put them through the double horizontal rings on the other (red). Then close them.

Step 7:
Repeat Step 6 for the rest of the units. You should end up with a nice looking chain that, when taut, opens up a little more.
