IMPORTANT: MAIL Has Been Hacked   (Posted: 2011-06-23) Hey Folks, Apologies for the abruptness of this, but I'm currently sweating a little bit... It's taken me two days to notice that this has happened, but now that I have I'm moving as fast as I can. MAIL has recently (June 20th) been the target of an SQL Injection Attack. (Not unlike what just happened to Sony, and about three billion other websites...) To put it in laymans terms, MAIL had a script designed to protect against such attacks, it proved to not be up to the task. [b]The problem has been isolated and fixed, but that doesn't change the current situation.[/b] What was stolen?: Email Addresses and (Encrypted) Password pairs. What does this mean?: Someone, somewhere (In China... I've traced the IP Address that performed the attack) has a text copy of your email address, and the password associated with it. "But my password was encrypted!" Yes, yes it was. However due to the age of the site, and parts of the core technology it is still built around, these passwords were stored using a fairly simple (by todays standards) encryption algorithm... There's a possibility that eventually the person who stole these passwords will be able to brute-force decrypt them. What should you do? You should immediately change your password on MAIL, and also on any other sites you may share that password with. Be sure to think of everywhere you may have used it: Email Accounts, Bank Accounts, PayPal, eBay, Other Forums, MSN, ICQ, etc. Dicussion regarding this will be located [url=http://www.mailleartisans.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=16461]here[/url]. You may also contact me directly. Thank You for your understanding in this situation. |

Gallery Submissions/Edits are BACK (With a Vengance)   (Posted: 2011-06-12) Hey Folks, your friendly neighbourhood coder here! Gallery Submissions are back. Edits are also back. There's a few minor changes, and I'll give a brief version here. [list][*]Gallery Images now have "Titles"... Any existing Images are named "Untitled"... You can edit this at will. [*]Gallery Images now use BBCode [b]exclusively[/b] to bring them inline with the rest of the site. No more HTML. I'm working on editing existing submissions to convert it, and have 90ish left. [*]You can no longer select a 'Category' to put your image in... Images will be tagged by a Gallery Admin after submission. [/list] As always, bug reports are welcome, post [url=http://www.mailleartisans.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=16435]here[/url]. |

1000 Weave Milestone   (Posted: 2010-06-03) The Weaves Library has now passed the 1000 weave mark. It was 8 years ago, March 30, 2002 that 100+ weaves was hit, an historic milestone, pushing the boundaries, and now, shattering the then percieved boundaries, with over 1000 weaves in the database....Hooraahh! This is a real landmark and all members should be proud of this achievement. Thanks to all weave submitters for sharing their inventions with the community, this is generous and praise worthy. As far as we can tell the 1000 weave is Capricorn by Legba3. |

Help Expand our Knowledge of History.   (Posted: 2010-03-07) MAIL needs your help. What our site is most lacking is historical information. I would like to encourage all our members to look for period/antique items. You can post pictures to our gallery and copy down provenance for future articles. Remember to get close-ups or take notes. No matter where you live there is probably a bit of maille around, it crops up in the most unusual places. The best places to look are antique shops and museums because they usually have lots of information available if you just ask. And if you are going on a trip anywhere maybe even make a point of finding out beforehand if there are any good museums there. |

Welcome to our new home!   (Posted: 2007-10-05) We've just completed the move to our new webhost! We've tried to test our scripts and things as best we can, but if you find anything that's broken or missing, please let Kithplana know. Thanks for your patience! |

On the Move!   (Posted: 2007-10-05) Hi folks! At long last, we have secured a new, more stable webhost, and are in the process of moving the site over to it. For the next few days, we ask that folks not submit any new additions to the site, as we will have trouble synchronizing them as files are copied over. Also, please forgive us if a few discussion board posts disappear during the process, as we get dozens of new posts a day, and at least some of them are going to hit while we're making the transition. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience! |

However, everything should be on-line now. Please let us know via email if problems persist... |

Rough Seas Behind Us   (Posted: 2002-11-13) There's no doubt...our first year at www.mailartisans.org was a successful one. We set out to be the prima destination on the web for maille craftsmen, and that we did. Yet there was a problem: funding. At the end of the year our dns ran out, and our server subscription ran out. The management scrambled to fix the problem only to find some Hong Kong search engine snatched up our DNS. So now we find ourselves with a new name, perhaps one a little more appropriate: www.mailleartisans.org. Hopefully next year we'll be able to generate the funds to keep this from happening again ;). Welcome, All! |

If you know of any one else who has invented a new weave please encourage them to come submit as well, the more the better! :) |
